Couple poison pet dogs and cats to be sold as food in Vietnam

But the theft of domestic cats and dogs continues, although authorities have made many arrests in recent years – including five people who were detained last month in Nghe An province.

Italian textile manufacturers and the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (Euratex) acted during the negotiations to prevent Chinese products that had undergone a finishing process in Vietnam from entering the EU without duties.

Police discovered three kilos of dried fish and 100 grams of cyanide at the couple’s home,  reported. 

That capacity, however, is being tested by growing demand – both from the EVFTA and the global disruption of trade caused by the U.S.-China trade war which has seen some manufacturing shift from China to Vietnam and other nearby countries.

International animal protection groups have continuously called on the Vietnamese government to ban the eating of dog and cat meat, but Hanoi has so far declined and the business remains lucrative.
